Mars and Venus Go Car Shopping: What Women Want, What Men Love in a Car

Do Men and Women haved Different Car Buying Habits? You Bet!

Men and women come at just about everything from different perspectives, so why should buying a car be any different?  We thought you may enjoy learning a bit about the different car buying preferences of men and women.

TrueCar.com conducted a study of gender differences in car buying which showed that women are more cost conscious and fuel-efficiency driven when selecting a vehicle, while men look for vehicles that are more brawny (large trucks), may be high-priced, and are more high-performance vehicles. (source:  Jesse Toprak, TrueCar analyst).  Women focus on different vehicle features, too.  According to AOL Autos, the top features men look for are: styling, horsepower, engine design, front visibility and the sound system.  Women on the other hand look for rear visibility, low monthly payments, front visibility, remote outside mirrors and side air bags.

Women are often told “good things come in small packages,” which seems to ring true with auto purchases: women are the predominant buyers of BMW’s MINI cars. Meanwhile, Ferrari’s sales are 93% to men. After the MINI, cars like Hondas and Nissans are very popular with the female crowd. Men, on the other hand, prefer a nice Porsche 911, according to TrueCar.com

For men, it seems to be more of a desire for what’s hot and fast than getting from point A to point B safely.  Big engines mean more power to get you where you’re going faster.  That also requires additional fuel and higher gas prices.  Men also buy more black cars with alloy wheels and great stereo systems. A man’s car seems to be their ultimate accessory.  Vanity seems to take over during these purchases and otherwise level-headed and unemotional men take on a new persona to get the speed they think they need.  Women are teased about being impulsive and emotional, however when it comes time to buying a car the women seem to be level-headed and practical.

Men are also attracted to high performance cars. The faster it can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour, the more desirable the car. A man’s car has to handle well on the road and be fast. The luxury car with the highest male ownership is the Audi RS4, which can go from 0 to 62 miles per hour in forty-eight seconds. If this gets your blood pumping, check out this great “hot” car at Hoffman Audi and take one for a test drive yourself….!
