Through the many programs offered by JA of Southwest New England, elementary school students learn valuable information about how they can have a positive impact in the world around them. Volunteers teach children about different roles and careers and introduce them to entrepreneurship and businesses that focus on STEM skills- science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
As students progress to middle school they begin preparations for their educational and professional futures. Through learning to apply critical thinking to finances, entrepreneurship, marketing and creating business plans students discover how goods and services flow through the marketplace.
The focus of high school programs is on fostering business savvy. Students learn the skills sought by employers, operate student-led companies, and explore economics. Students can also participate in job shadowing with JA volunteers.
Volunteers are crucial to the success of JA’s multiple programs. As a volunteer, you help to inspire kids through your real world experiences and become role models for the students. In partnership with each school, JA provides curriculum and training to prepare for weekly classroom sessions (Traditional Program) or for one full day (JA Day). Come learn about how you can make an impact and hear directly from some of the well-spoken students about their experience. JA’s 13th Annual Partners in Achievement Breakfast will be held at the Hartford Marriott Downtown on Friday, May 13.
