When you visit any of our Hoffman Auto Group dealerships this December, you’ll see our vehicles decked out in red ribbons. They aren’t for Santa, although our vehicles do make a fabulous gift idea for those of you on Santa’s “Nice” list! Actually, the ribbons are for Mothers Against Drunk Driving’s (MADD) Tie One On for Safety campaign and designated driver program. According to their website, Mothers Against Drunk Driving is dedicated and determined “to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims of these violent crimes and prevent underage drinking.” During the month of December, a portion of every vehicle sold at all Hoffman Auto Group dealerships will be donated to MADD’s mission- your purchase makes a positive impact in your community!
Hoffman Auto Group has supported MADD’s Tie One on for Safety campaign for 14 years and has donated nearly $180 thousand to the local MADD chapter. We invite you to get involved and show your support. Be sure to request a free MADD Tie One On for Safety ribbon and display it on your vehicle to remind everyone not to drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Celebrating the 30th Anniversary this year, the Tie One On for Safety red ribbon campaign began in 1986 and continues to be MADD’s longest-running awareness campaign. The phrase “tie one on” is slang for drinking alcohol, but MADD wants you to tie on a red ribbon to remind everyone that drinking and driving don’t mix. Put safety first and designate a driver before leaving for a celebration. Drunk driving is 100% preventable, yet every two minutes someone is injured in a drunk driving accident.
Every year, thousands of people die as a result of drunk driving accidents. In 2014 the number dropped below ten thousand for the first time in three years. Since MADD’s founding in 1980, drunk driving deaths have been cut by 53%. To date, MADD has saved 350 thousand lives, and has served over 820 thousand victims. In 2014, the organization provided nearly 120 thousand supportive services to victims. MADD offers free support to victims and families which comes in the form of victim advocates, supportive literature, and aiding victims in applying for Crime Victim Compensation. They also have a 24-hour victim services hotline as well as an online chat option on their website.
