The 2017 New York International Auto Show just wrapped and all of the new vehicle debuts left us speechless! As difficult as it was to narrow it down to only five choices, we compiled our top five favorite vehicles from NYIAS.
At this year’s auto show, the BMW i3 was presented with an award for 2017 World Urban Car of the Year. “We are delighted and honored that the BMW i3 has been recognized as the World Urban Car of the Year,” said Ludwig Willisch, Head of BMW Group Region Americas. “This award highlights BMW Group’s commitment to sustainable mobility through BMW’s first all-electric vehicle… Today, the new 2017 BMW i3 provides more range paired with a high-level of dynamic performance, making it the perfect urban vehicle for people around the world.” The i3 boasts a 94 Ah battery and 114 miles of range, an upgrade of the previous model’s 81 mile range.
2. Nissan Rogue Trail Warrior Project
The 2017 Nissan Rogue Trail Warrior Project takes “family adventure ready” to the next level. This vehicle, which comes wrapped in camouflage print and features a full snow/sand track system, was created exclusively for NYIAS. Aside from the suspension and wheel wells, which were modified to fit the 48 inch long, 30 inch high 15 inch wide DOMINATOR® Tracks, everything on this Rogue is standard factory issue. “If you want to stand out from the crowd during a day on the slopes or the beach, this is the vehicle to take,” said Michael Bunce, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America, Inc.
3. Ford Police Responder Hybrid
Did you know that the average police car can drive as much as 20,000 miles in a year? Or that a police car can spend an average of 10 hours per day just idling! Not only is that hard on the vehicle, but it’s also harmful to the environment. Luckily, Ford has created the Police Responder Hybrid, which can break even cost-wise in as little as one year. It’s capable of up to 60mph on just electric power, and, at 38mpg combined, this hybrid is twice as efficient as Ford’s Police Interceptor. Additionally, the lights, radios, and the rest of the typical police vehicle electrical equipment can function without a running engine.
4. Honda Civic Type R
New from Honda is the Civic Type R. While foreign markets have been enjoying Type R Hondas for years, this is the first Type R that American markets have been able to get their hands on. Fans can expect a turbocharged, 2.0L twin-cam inline-four with variable valve timing generating 306hp (228 kW) at 6,500rpm and 295lb-ft (400Nm) of torque at 2,500rpm. It will come with summer 245/30R20 tires, the same rear wing as global markets, red front seats, a Type R badge and serial number, unique graphics in the instrument cluster, plus the three driving modes, which change damping and throttle response between Comfort, Sport, and “+R” settings. Mark your calendars for June- you don’t want to miss your chance to come down to Hoffman Honda and test drive this!
5. Porsche 911 GT3
The 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 is one of the most impressive NYIAS debuts this year. The 2018 model is powered by a 4.0 liter flat-six engine which produces 500 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. Vehicles equipped with the standard seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission are able to run from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds- with an impressive top speed of 197 mph! “Visually, the lightweight carbon fiber rear wing reinforces the fact that the design of the car is driven by aerodynamics,” Porsche said in a statement. “The lightweight front fascia and the front spoiler are designed for optimum airflow. The rear end with exhaust air openings and a new diffusor also contribute to the overall aerodynamic efficiency.”
