Hoffman Audi is leading the way for giving well qualified veterans the chance to translate their military skills and prowess into careers as highly skilled auto service technicians. Audi of America, Inc. established the Audi Veterans to Technicians Program to meet the growing and predicted future dealership demand for talented and experienced technicians, and Hoffman Audi was quick to join the program at its launch in 2013.
Veterans to Technicians, or “Vets to Techs,” aims to connect talented military personnel with challenging and rewarding new careers as Audi certified service technicians, service consultants, shop foremen and parts specialists in dealerships across the country. Veterans with proven automotive skills or experience in power generation, aviation, welding, electronics, hydraulic systems and maritime systems are provided with opportunities to work at Audi dealerships in their market area.
“I worked in the motor pool in Afghanistan. It was rough over there. My job was being a truck driver, which meant I was also responsible for all preventive maintenance check services: fluids, oil, tire condition, etc. I was responsible for inspecting every vehicle before driving and addressing any problems,” Isaac explains.
In 2013, three months after starting at Hoffman Audi through the Vets to Tech program, Isaac said “I had thought about opening my own shop, but I really wanted to be certified. I had thought about going back to school, but I decided this program looked like a better opportunity.” Now, he is a certified technician. “I think it’s really good Audi has this program. I wish other dealerships did it, too,” he adds.
